This is why it can be advantageous to choose Grade 10 chains and components

It is not always easy for the customer to understand the classification when working with a chain sling.

Many people are familiar with grade 8 (also known as Grade 80), which has been widely used in various industries for many years. However, nowadays grade 10 (also known as Grade 100) is the most commonly used grade for chain slings. But why is that the case?

Grade 10 offers increased flexibility.

With grade 10 components, you can handle both lighter and somewhat heavier lifting tasks. This flexibility allows for versatility in performing various lifting jobs, and you can simply purchase grade 10 equipment without needing anything else. Having only one type of components reduces the risk of accidentally assembling the wrong components.

The reduced weight of the equipment leads to less heavy lifting.

Individuals in the industry may acknowledge that this line of work often involves manual lifting and handling tasks that can cause strain over time. Thankfully, many companies prioritize creating a favorable work environment for their employees, leading most to adopt the trend of transitioning to grade 10 equipment.

Grade 10 chains and components are approximately 25% stronger than their grade 8 counterparts. This offers the advantage of being able to select smaller dimensions to minimize the need for handling heavy equipment during lifting tasks.

Is it more expensive to choose Grade 10 equipment?

In general, opting for grade 10 equipment is not typically more expensive than purchasing grade 8 equipment. However, when using grade 10 equipment, it is often possible to substitute, for example, a 10 mm chain with an 8 mm chain having the same Working Load Limit (WLL), which can actually be more cost-effective.

Are the repair and maintenance requirements for Grade 10 different?

Whether you use grade 8 or grade 10 chain slings, the laws and requirements for repair and maintenance services are the same. Both types are covered by the same European standard, which stipulates that if one chain link needs replacement, then the entire chain in that section must be replaced. The Danish Working Environment Authority (WEA) mandates a main inspection at least every 12 months for all types of lifting and transporting equipment. CERTEX Danmark A/S offers chain components in all grades, including grade 12, but our standard range currently consists of grade 10 equipment.

Safety first!

Always follow the specified workloads (WLL) for the different sling types. And always read and understand the instructions before using the product.
